Cityside Skips Christmas Party to Help the Less Fortunate
A local business has decided to forego its annual Christmas party in order to help those less fortunate.
All 16 employees who work at Cityside Management Corporation in Sterling Heights have decided that instead of having a Christmas party they're going to donate the money they would use on a party to the Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan to help needy families.
"We though instead of having a feast here at our office, why not give it up for people who need food," said Building and Contract Specialist Miranda Mayuiers.
According to Mayuiers, it was a mutual agreement among all the employees to donate to Gleaners.

Gleaners Food Bank has been serving the metro Detroit area for more than 30 years and the $500 donation from Cityside Management will provide roughly 1,500 meals to the hungry.
"I think they (Gleaners) have a large impact," said Mayuiers. "That's why we chose them."
According to the Gleaners website, of every dollar donated, 96 cents is used for food and food programs.
"Instead of us having food for us, we would rather provide food for others," said Mayuiers.
Cityside Management is new to the Sterling Heights area and Michigan in general. The office on Hall Road opened in August.
According to Mayuiers, the company, headquartered in New Hampshire, is an asset management company for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. "We want to make an impact in our community," she said. "We would love to see other local business follow suit."
Representatives from Cityside Management delivered the check to the Gleaners Food Bank on Dec. 1.
"We know it's not much," said Mayuiers, "but it's our way of giving back and we're glad we can help."
